30 JUNE 2026 XENOPHOBIC / ANTI-FOREIGN NATIONAL PROTESTS SOUTH AFRICA – UPDATE 30 JUNE 2026 (12:15)

Current Operational Update

Sporadic incidents occurred overnight, with the number of active demonstrations increasing during the morning, particularly across Gauteng, where multiple incidents are now underway simultaneously.

KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga are also experiencing increasing protest activity, with demonstrations reported in both metropolitan and rural areas. The operational impact continues to be characterised by:

• Localised road closures and traffic congestion.
• Increased police deployments around protest locations.
• Temporary disruption to commuting and public transport.
• Heightened security risks near informal settlements, township areas and city centres.
• Anti-foreign national demonstrations, with the highest direct risk to foreign-owned businesses and informal traders operating within affected communities.

Excellerate Assessment

The situation remains dynamic but consistent with our earlier assessment. Protest activity is increasing in volume but remains geographically dispersed. Businesses should continue implementing site-specific preparedness measures, particularly in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, while maintaining close communication with local management, SAPS and security providers.

Operations should continue as planned where it is safe to do so. Staff should avoid known protest areas, allow additional travel time, remain vigilant while travelling, and immediately report any safety concerns or operational disruptions through the appropriate management channels.
