EXCELLERATE SECURITY INTELLIGENCE REPORT – 30 JUNE 2026 – UPDATE

30 JUNE 2026 XENOPHOBIC / ANTI-FOREIGN NATIONAL PROTESTS SOUTH AFRICA – UPDATE 30 JUNE 2026 (16:30)

Current Operational Update

As today’s planned demonstrations draw to a close, the overall operational environment across South Africa remains stable.

For the most part, protest activity has concluded, with crowds dispersing from city centres, including Durban’s Point precinct and several other major CBDs. While a larger number of protesters remain in parts of the Johannesburg CBD and Hillbrow, these gatherings continue to be closely monitored.

Over the past two hours, only one additional impact site has been recorded, indicating that the organised protest activity has largely run its course.

There have been isolated criminal incidents associated with dispersing groups. In Hammarsdale, five youths, the youngest aged 14, were arrested following the looting of a tuck shop. Reports have also been received of a vigilante group conducting house-to-house searches in one area, with the South African Police Service responding and currently managing the situation.

Consistent with earlier assessments, Excellerate Security expects isolated opportunistic criminal activity to continue into the evening, with the operational environment transitioning from protest-related incidents to more conventional crime-related activity.

Encouragingly, there continue to be no reports of any major confrontations between protesters and law enforcement agencies, reflecting the disciplined and coordinated response by the South African Police Service, Metro Police, private security providers and other security role players.

The Excellerate Security therefore maintains an AMBER threat level for South Africa. Our teams will remain fully deployed, with continued aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and operational monitoring throughout the evening.

We also urge the public to exercise caution when consuming information online, as experience suggests an increase in misinformation and false reports can be expected as today’s events conclude.

Our National Command Centre will continue to monitor developments and provide further updates as necessary.
